When Jens Umbach traveled to Afghanistan for the first time in 2010, he was staying at the Marmal Army Camp near Masar-i Sharif and portrayed German soldiers who were deployed on site. Four years later, Umbach returns with the desire to take photographs of those people who have experienced the many conflict situations in the fourth largest city in Afghanistan in the immediate vicinity of the German camp. He captures moments of hope, but also of disappointment. The focus is always clearly on the people who give the region their face and life - The Afghans.
