Homer van PeltsHis career path reads almost like a real Hollywood movie. The young photographer worked as a cameraman and stills photographer for Columbia Studios until Pearl Harbor was bombed. Shortly thereafter, he joined a special army unit to visually record American history. North Africa, France, the South Pacific – Homer van Pelt photographed around the world on behalf of the army and served in a unit that lost 13 photographers during this time.
Back in the USA, Homer, still in the Army, photographed politicians such as Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, and Eisenhower. After his discharge, he returned to his original field, which allowed for greater creative and personal freedom. During this time, he captured iconic images of actors such as Kim Novak, Elvis Presley, Jack Lemon, Humphrey Bogart, and Marlon Brando.
