Elsa Garate

The Spanish artist’s life has always been connected to art.

After several exhibitions in Málaga, she moved to Barcelona at a young age to study art history, graphic design and illustration at the University of Barcelona, combining her passion for painting with her work as a creative and artistic director in advertising and fashion production companies.

In 2010, Gárate moved her studio to Málaga and has since concentrated on her artistic work.

Her works are exhibited in national and international galleries and are part of numerous private collections in Europe, the United States and Asia.

Elsa Gárate's portraits capture the broad spectrum of human emotions and invite the viewer into an intense dialogue.

Through nuances in facial expressions and gestures, Gárate succeeds in creating an emotional diversity that invites viewers to bring their own feelings and interpretations into the work. Her art thrives on the interaction and resonance it evokes in the viewer's eye, thereby unfolding a fascinating, often personal dynamic.

Her technique is mainly based on the use of acrylic ink on synthetic canvas.

Acrylic ink is used for its fluid texture. The synthetic canvas has a particularly even, water-repellent surface, allowing for controlled distribution of the acrylic ink and precise buildup of color layers.

The combination of these materials creates vibrant, long-lasting works with a modern, almost luminous aesthetic.
