With a wink and lots of paper, photo artist Josef Fischnaller stages stars like Hannelore Elsner and Andrea Sawatzki.

Even though he didn't like hearing it for a long time, Josef Fischnaher has found his niche: namely, the content-related space that was still unoccupied in the field of photography. A field he can explore with his work. "A colleague said to me a few years ago: 'You've landed squarely in an unoccupied area of photography,' and that's true," says the Vienna native, who took his first photos as an eleven-year-old boy.
Fischnaller became known for his powerful reinterpretations of world-famous masterpieces of art history, staging not only celebrities but also ordinary people – like my role model Caravaggio.” Thus, a former Tatort detective – Andrea Sawatzkl – becomes Queen Elizabeth I, and Saint Jerome studies the news on his smartphone instead of books, while leaning on stacks of Vogue magazines.
