Ulin is the literary editor of the Los Angeles Times and the author of The Myth of Solid Ground: Earthquakes, Prediction, and the Fault Line Between Reason and Faith , which was published by the San Francisco Chronicle in 2004. and the Chicago Tribune It was chosen as "Best Book". Ulin is the editor of the volumes. Another City: Writing from Los Angeles as well as Writing Los Angeles: A Literary Anthology for the Library of America , which won the California Book Award in 2002. He writes for The Atlantic Monthly The Nation , The New York Times Book Review and the radio show All Things Considered of National Public Radio. His essay "The Half-Birthday of the Apocalypse" was nominated for the Pushcart Prize in 2004. In the 2008-2009 academic year, Ulin taught as a visiting professor in the Creative Writing Master's program at the California Institute of the Arts.
Kevin Starr received his doctorate from Harvard University and was a professor of history at the University of Southern California. He received numerous awards for his publications, including a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Harvard University Jubilee Medal, and the National Endowment for the Humanities Medal.
