The author

Jean-Louis Cohen (1949–2023) was commissioned in 1997 by the French Minister of Culture to design the Cité de l'architecture, an ambitious architecture museum, in a wing of the Palais de Chaillot in Paris. His research encompassed 20th-century architecture and urban planning. Cohen studied architecture, focusing on Germany and the Soviet era, and engaged intensively with the work of Le Corbusier and the history of Parisian urban planning. He was a professor of architectural history, author of numerous architecture books, and curator of exhibitions on the subject.
