“Shout for joy, be glad, arise, and praise the days!” A great work and long-term project has been completed: TASCHEN is delighted to announce, after around ten years, the completion of the five-volume David LaChapelle anthology with the long-awaited albums Good News, Part II and Lost & Found, Part I, which began with LaChapelle Land (1996) and continued with Hotel LaChapelle (1999) and Heaven to Hell (2006).
Both volumes feature works by the artist who, like no other, amalgamates quotations from religion, pornography, art and pop history into a distinctive, highly artificial aesthetic and, in his surreal productions and brightly colored, opulent arrangements, always also addresses themes such as consumerism and body fetishism, gender issues and spirituality .
Good News is clearly characterized by the sacred , from early photographs of naked angels and lovers in 1980s New York to very recent images in which LaChapelle's Hawaiian retreat transforms into a trippy Garden of Eden and celebrities into saints. Also on view are examples from other recent bodies of work, such as Earth Laughs In Flowers and Awakened , which reflect the many facets of his art.
Good News features:
Early nudes from the 1980s in NYC, Pamela Anderson, Lana Del Rey, Sharon Gault, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Paris Jackson , David LaChapelle, Ama nda Lepore, Miriam Makeba , Sergei Polunin, Tupac Shakur, Elizabeth Taylor and many others...
