The world seems to be divided into cat lovers and dog lovers—thankfully, this isn't the case for Walter Chandoha, the greatest pet photographer of the 20th century. He loved these fascinating creatures equally for their unique beauty and individual characteristics , photographing them both for pleasure and for a living. While working on his critically acclaimed TASCHEN book, Cats , Chandoha selected his favorite dog photos for a potential follow-up, setting aside hundreds of contact sheets, prints, and color slides in carefully labeled boxes—many of which had last been published over 50 years, some never before.
We encounter over 60 dog breeds , from terriers to collies, from beagles to bloodhounds, from Alsatians to poodles, photographed in both atmospheric black and white and magnificent Kodachrome.
