Small house – big impact
A comprehensive presentation of innovative architecture in a small space
This homage to an immeasurable wealth of ingenuity, with which familiar and established housing concepts are reimagined, proves that there are no limits to the artistic creativity of architects. With a targeted focus on sustainability and environmentally friendly construction methods , Philip Jodidio presents daring visions of small houses that, in the face of climate change, population growth, and resource scarcity, offer humanity forward-looking ways of living and open up new worlds of dwelling.
Whether in the dense urban jungle of Tokyo, the Australian outback, the forests of Canada, or on a rooftop in Ecuador – tiny houses are springing up in a wide variety of places. This book takes us on a journey not only through the recent history of creative architecture but also towards a more sustainable world, exploring small houses with a living area of no more than 100 square meters around the globe – in 25 countries including Brazil, Hungary, South Korea, the Netherlands, the USA, Japan, and Australia, designed by 54 architects, including Takeshi Hosaka's Love2 House, Aranza de Ariño's Casa Tiny, and designs by Jakub Szczęsny, Charles Pictet, Lada Hršak, BIG, and Fran Silvestre.
