The opening becomes a family reunion

Photographer Tobias Freytag's famous flag photo even made it to the White House: it hung in the office of Obama's Vice President, Joe Biden. Singer Cher had given it to him as a gift for his inauguration. The image is also featured in the 38-year-old's current exhibition, "lala-land" (named after the nickname of the US metropolis Los Angeles), at the Roschlaub Gallery on Mittelweg. The opening was a true family reunion: among those who traveled from Düsseldorf were Freytag's sister, the well-known Düsseldorf cosmetic surgeon Dr. Barbara Sturm, and his father, Horst Freytag, with his partner, fashion designer Uta Raasch. She wore a knitted sweater specially made for the opening, emblazoned with the word "Lala." Other guests included presenter and journalist Giovanni di Lorenzo, designers Stefan Eckert and André Borchers, model Marie Amière, actor Andreas Brucker, advertising executive Nane Mundt, and presenter Petra Neftel. The artist was delighted: "It was my very first exhibition," said Tobias Freytag. "I am very grateful to Kirsten Roschlaub for her persistence and for making this wonderful evening possible."
