The (almost) forgotten of Mazar-i Sharif

When Jens Umbach traveled to Afghanistan for the first time in 2010, he was housed in the Bundeswehr Camp Marmal near Masar-i Sharif and portrayed German soldiers deployed there. Four years later, Umbach returned with the desire to
to photographically document those who have witnessed the many conflict situations of recent years in Afghanistan's fourth largest city in the immediate vicinity of the German camp.

He captures moments of hope, but also of disappointment. The focus is always clearly on the people who give the region its face and its life—the Afghans.
