You're a trained photographer yourself, and your gallery specializes in photography. What fascinates you about this art form?

I always say I was a photographer. I don't take photos anymore, except with my phone. But my heart still beats for photography. I see it this way: I've simply switched sides.

How do you choose the artists you present? It's a gut feeling! Many people apply to me, but of course, I'm constantly on the go myself. Including Instagram. I never thought the medium would play such an important role. I actually come across interesting artists all over the world there that I probably would never have discovered otherwise. Often, though, it's also a great coincidence. For example, Tobias Freytag, whose visual language fascinates me, is the brother of a good friend.

In addition to your gallery, you also operate an online business. What impact does the web have on the art business? The gallery is the showroom; without it, it wouldn't work. But thanks to my online shop, I reach customers far beyond my regional catchment area. I now sell throughout Europe. Just recently, the Versace boutique in Milan purchased a series of my vintage photos "The Golden Age of Hollywood." And no one from Italy came to Hamburg for that...
